POLEPOSITION

YOUR GAME. YOUR PRIVACY.

Pole Position Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

Pole Position is developed by David Leonardi. This policy explains the privacy update to gameplay and Challenge Mode. The developer-operated services do not create player accounts, build player profiles, or use a persistent installation identifier.

Information on your device

Pole Position stores gameplay results, performance history, preferences, coaching history and secret achievement progress on your device. Solo gameplay does not require Game Center. Your complete local performance and coaching history is not uploaded to the developer's services.

Game Center and achievements

If you sign in to Apple's Game Center, Pole Position uses Apple's services to submit scores, display rankings and player profiles, and report and retrieve earned achievements. These Game Center features remain associated with your Apple Game Center account. Your Game Center name, profile and scores may be visible to other players according to Apple's services and your settings.

The developer's Challenge Mode service does not receive your Game Center name, player identifier, identity proof or Apple Account password. Apple handles Game Center information under its own privacy terms: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

Challenge Mode lobbies

Two-player lobbies use a developer-operated service hosted on Cloudflare. New lobbies are invite-only by default; a host can explicitly choose to list an open lobby publicly. No account or Game Center sign-in is required. When you create or join a lobby, the app creates a new random private access key for your place in that lobby. A key is used only for that lobby, and the server stores a hash scoped to that lobby. The keys are kept on your device so you can resume your lobbies. They are not a global player or device identifier and are not used to link different lobbies to one person.

The service stores the lobby title, the nicknames chosen for that lobby, invitation code, game mode, attempts, submitted scores, results and the times needed to enforce deadlines. This enables invitations, attempt limits, retry recovery and deciding the winner. A nickname labels one place in one lobby, alongside that place's attempts, scores and result. It is not an account name, a verified identity or a nickname reserved across lobbies. The other participant can see the lobby title, your lobby nickname, best score, attempt count and result. We do not ask for your real name or contact information. Choose a fresh made-up nickname for each lobby rather than your real name, a recognizable account handle or contact details. Other people may recognize you if you choose an identifying nickname. Do not put personal information in a lobby title.

An open lobby appears in a public directory with its title, invitation code, game mode, creation time and joining deadline. Anyone browsing can join its open seat. The directory does not display participant nicknames, scores or private access keys. An unfilled open lobby closes after 30 minutes and disappears from the directory; an invite-only invitation expires after seven days. Full, cancelled and expired lobbies are not listed. The directory shows joinable invitations, not whether a player is currently online.

Invitation links let another person join an available lobby. For invite-only lobbies, share them only with the person you want to play. Your private lobby access key is not included in an invitation link. There is no account-based lookup of your lobbies; losing the local access keys can make them inaccessible to you.

Lobby records, their attempts and access-key hashes become eligible for deletion 30 days after the lobby was created. Scheduled cleanup removes expired records. The service does not match lobby activity to a Game Center account, persistent device identifier or outside identity dataset, or use it to build a profile across lobbies. App Store privacy details declare lobby identifiers and gameplay content as Data Not Linked to You for app functionality, based on these lobby-scoped records and the absence of an account, device or cross-lobby identity mapping. This does not mean that no data is collected or that lobby labels and results are hidden from the other participant.

The private developer dashboard also uses existing lobby and attempt records to count open invitations, active matches, attempts and completed runs by game. Gameplay content is therefore also used for analytics. The dashboard receives only aggregate totals; it does not receive nicknames, lobby titles, invitation codes, private access keys, individual scores or player profiles. These totals describe competition activity, not a count of people currently online. Solo-play activity is not included.

Solo gameplay statistics

Solo-run reporting has been retired. The developer service discards activity reports from older app versions without storing them. Updated app versions no longer include reporting controls or send solo-run statistics. Your local results, averages, best scores and attempt history remain available on your device. The developer dashboard shows Challenge Mode activity only, not solo runs, unique players or people online.

Hosting, security and retention

Cloudflare provides hosting, storage and network security. Online requests necessarily involve network information such as an IP address. The services use short-lived edge rate limits to limit abuse. IP addresses are not stored in the application's databases or associated with stored lobby records. Worker request observability is disabled, and application error handling does not log request bodies, access keys or IP addresses. Cloudflare processes infrastructure information under its own terms and privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.

Scheduled deletion can take place after the stated eligibility time. Cloudflare D1's automatic recovery history on the free plan can retain deleted database data for up to seven additional days. Recovery data is not used for analytics or to restore player profiles. If a database is restored, expired and retired data must be removed again before the service resumes.

The earlier services used a Game Center identifier and display name for competitions and an installation identifier for play activity. The privacy update removes that earlier application database data rather than transferring it into the replacement system. Older app versions cannot create account-linked competitions, and their legacy statistics requests are discarded without storing their contents. Cloudflare's recovery-history period also applies to the removed legacy records.

Advertising and tracking

Pole Position does not include advertising, sell player data, or use this information for advertising tracking across apps or websites. It does not include a third-party analytics SDK. Aggregate Challenge Mode statistics help operate the competition service; they are not combined with other datasets to identify players.

On-device AI

On supported devices, Race Engineer uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models to provide feedback based on app-calculated gameplay statistics. Pole Position does not send gameplay or coaching data to an external AI service. App-calculated coaching remains available when the on-device model is unavailable.

Exports and backups

You can choose to export results or back up and restore app data using the system file interface. Files are saved to the location you select. If you choose a cloud storage provider or share a file, that provider or recipient handles it under its own terms. Keep exported files private if they contain your gameplay history.

Your choices

You can play solo without Game Center, choose whether to enter a lobby or list an open lobby publicly, and control Race Engineer in Settings. Removing the app removes its local app data but does not necessarily remove exported files or information stored by Game Center. Keychain items may remain on your device after app deletion; they are not a developer-held player account. Online records follow the retention periods above. Manage Game Center information through Apple's settings and services.
